THE BOY NEXT DOOR✓ EPISODE 135✓

Jade squats to talk to her when she grins at us.

"I like your crop top." She tells Jade who smiles brightly.

"Really? And I like the gap in your teeth. Where did your tooth go to?"

She pouts adorably.
"The tooth fairy took it. She's going to give me another one.'"

I stand there, watching them drone on and on and even as Ethan joins the conversation, I find myself thinking about Kane.

I don't want to associate myself with him but he is a baby and innocent and to be honest, he is a very nice kid. I briefly wonder how it is like for him staying with a Mom who is a party animal.

I know that dad takes care of him. I would know because he always did everything for me whenever my Mom was unavailable. But still, Kane must be having a hard time coping on weekends without his mother.  

Maybe I should visit him one of these days....

"You are so quiet." Ethan observes, dragging me away from the pretty girl. Cara and Jade are still talking with her and laughing their asses off and they don't even look at us as we walk towards the small makeshift lake in the middle of the park.

"Just thinking."

"About Kain?"

I shake my head. "Not really."

"Bella, you don't have to lie to me. I know that you care about Kain and what he did made you unhappy....."

I cut him off immediately.
"Do I look unhappy to you? I'm not unhappy. I'm fucking mad, angry, embarrassed, you name it. Kain made a fool of me in front of everyone!"

Ethan appears to be surprised by my outburst and he shakes his head when he realizes that my tears are about to start falling.

"I'm sorry Bella. I thought that Kain really cared about you."

"I thought so too. Apparently he doesn't."

"You wouldn't know that. Why don't you give him a chance to explain?"

"Explain what? That he was doing whatever shit with a girl who has tried to hurt me several times because of him?"

"Bella, calm down. Maybe he didn't intend to hurt you."

I snort. "Of course he didn't."

"I'm serious." He stops then turns me to face him. "I've known Kain for like ten years and I can tell you for a fact that he is never one to show emotions easily. He treats you so well and if I didn't know him any better, I would say he is actually in love with you."

I roll my eyes at that. Love indeed.

"Stop rolling your eyes. I'm serious. You should have seen him last night after you left. He was literally breaking down."

"Probably because we interrupted their private moment." I say sourly.

"You should listen to his side of the story. He looked remorseful and so confused. Can you believe that I hit Kain and he didn't hit me back?"

I push him away.
"Stop talking to me. Since when did you start siding with Kain?"

"Since when I realized he has your best interests at heart. I care for you but Kain does more than that. He would do anything for you."

"You wouldn't know that."

He nods. "I would, actually. I'm a man so I can easily tell. "

"So what is your suggestion?" I challenge him, looking at him dead in the eye.

"Just give him a chance to explain."

"I won't. He is going to lie anyway."

"What if he says the truth?"

"That he had sex with Tatiana?"

Ethan frowns at me. "Kain didn't have sex with Tatiana."

"What did they do, huh?"

He takes a deep breath. "You got the whole thing wrong. Just let him explain."

"Why are you so into him explaining?"

"I told you, Bella. Kain cares about you."

I roll my eyes.
"I'm going back to Jade."

He shrugs. "Fine."

I turn around, and get the surprise of my life.

Kain is standing right behind me, his hands in his jeans pockets. He is looking at me longingly, his eyes dull and tired, light stubble dotting his cheeks.

Behind him, Jay, George and Zac are standing at the side, all looking at me.

I turn to Ethan with shock plastered all over my face and he shrugs.

"I'm sorry. He asked for a favour, to get you away from home to a place where he could talk to you."

"And you said yes?" I ask, clenching my hands on the sides to keep from strangling him.

"Yes. You should listen to him."

I shake my head in confusion. Since when did Ethan care about Kain? What the hell is happening?

I turn back to Kain and he is standing at the same position looking all nervous as he watches my face carefully, trying to gauge my expression.
