I quickly put it on before rushing to the bathroom to brush my teeth.
Kain is still in bed when I get back, his curios eyes on me the entire time. I have come to realize that he observes more and talks less.
He moves to create space on the bed but I shake my head.
"I've had enough sleep. I should get going."
He glances at the wall clock.
"It's only eight. You are supposed to go home at ten."
"Before ten. I should really get going. I need to shower and change."
"You can shower here and Gianna has clothes you can change into."
"No." I stand my ground. "I still need to talk to my Mom. I've barely seen her since Friday."
He shrugs in defeat.
"Fine. Gianna will walk you home. If your Mom sees you with me, she's going to freak out."
"Just go back to sleep. You look tired."
"I'll see you around."
"Sure."
Turning my back to him, I walk to the door.
Why does this feel like the walk of shame?
My mom looks at me up and down when she opens the door. Her gaze fleets to Gianna who is wearing sweatpants and a T-shirt.
"Do you want to come in?" She asks Gianna who shakes her head.
"I have stuff to do." Then she turns to smile at me. "Thanks for sleeping over Bella. We should watch twilight more often."
My mom beams at her. "You guys watched twilight?"
"Yes. Don't I just love those movies?" Gianna surely knows the right buttons to push.
Mom smiles widely. She is just crazy about twilight.
"Are you sure you don't want to come in? You can just have coffee."
"Not right now ma'am. Maybe I'll drop by later."
"Okay then. Have a good day."
Passing me a small last smile, she walks back to her place.
I expect mom's eyes to be cold and angry when she turns to me but she is smiling. How odd. She is supposed to be mad at me.
"Are you okay?" I ask and she laughs.
"Yes, silly. I've never been better."
"What happened?"
She lifts her hand to show me the ring. "Daniel proposed when we went out on Friday night. I haven't had the chance to tell you yet."
Oh my God!
I rush to her and wrap my arms around her. She squeezes me in a tight hug before pulling back.
"Daniel is good for you Mom. I've never seen you this happy."
"I know baby. I'm just so glad that I met him. I'm even happier that you approve of him. It means the world to me when you like the man I so love."
I smile while inspecting the ring. It's a stunning ruby and diamond ring, and the glitter is simply crazy.
That must have cost a fortune.
"I'm so happy for you Mom. When is the wedding?"
She laughs while leading me to the kitchen. "An engagement party comes first you silly girl. It's on Thursday then the wedding will be planned after that. You can invite your friends to both."
"Even the boys?" I ask while heaving myself on the counter.
"You have a boyfriend already?"
"No Mom, of course not. But I have a few boys who are my friends."

She gives me a speculating look while placing coffee and a bun beside me.
"They better be good boys."
"They are. I promise."
"I'm only doing this because of Daniel. He thinks I've been locking you in for way too long. You can have fun with your friends as long as you act responsibly."
I squeal excitedly. My life is really shaping out.
"And your fun better not interfere with your school work. One small mistake and you are grounded." She warns me.
"Thanks Mom. I love you."
She rolls her eyes and walks out of the kitchen.
Glancing at Kain's kitchen window, I notice that its open and Gianna is looking at me with a smile. Wait, could she hear what my Mom was saying? I really want to meet the dumbass who designed such stupid houses. I show her a thumbs up, grinning like a maniac before I leave the kitchen.
****
By 1700hours, I have finished my assignments, read three chapters of my novel and even managed a three hour nap. Jade texted me earlier that they are still at Zac's and she has been having a terrible hangover.
I'm on the couch in my bedroom watching a movie on my computer when Mom walks in without knocking.
She gives me a funny look.
"Do you have a boyfriend Bella?"
"Do you have a boyfriend Bella?"
Her question throws me off guard.
"Mom, I already told you I do not."
"Mom, I already told you I do not."
"Who is Kain?"
Oh my God. How does she know about him?
"He is my schoolmate and next door neighbour. Gianna is his baby sister."
She narrows her eyes at me for a while as if trying to gauge my level of honesty.
"Okay. He is downstairs waiting for you. He says that you are going to the movies with him and the rest of your friends."
Oh? Why didn't tell me?
"Okay. I'll be down in a minute." I answer and Mom gives me one last glance before turning to go.
"Be careful Bella. That good looking boy looks like trouble."
"I will Mom. Relax."
I reach for my phone, cursing when I realize it's on silent mode. Sure enough, I have three missed calls from a new number and a text message.
You're not answering calls. Coming for you in a few. We're going to the movies.
Kain.
Kain.
I change into jeans and a conservative top. Tugging on my sneakers, I grab my phone and some cash and I'm on my way.
Kain just looks at me when I go downstairs. No smile, no nothing. Mom is watching us closely so he just nods politely.
"Hi Bella?"
"Hi. Where are the rest?"
"At Zac's. Let's go." Then he turns to my Mom. "Thank you ma'am."
"Take care of her." Mom warns.
"I will."
Jay hugs me with a pout when we get to Zac's, claiming that I sneaked out and left him all alone in bed. Jade is wearing George's jacket and I sincerely hope that they made up. Zac hugs me but he is acting a little bit strange since last night. Maybe it's the alcohol?
"Gianna is not going?" I ask Kain who shakes his head.
"She is at the mall with dad."
"Ethan, Cara?" I ask again and Jay answers.
"Ethan just left for his apartment. He has school tomorrow."
Oops. I had already forgotten that tomorrow is Monday.
"Cara hasn't shown up since last night. She says she is busy." Jade informs me.
I shrug. Jade still doesn't know that her best friend is a curse.
"Are we going to stand here all day?" Kain grumbles and they all snap to action.
I'm surprised when they all head to George's car. There's no way we are fitting in there...
George gets into the driver's seat and Jade hesitates before taking the shotgun. What. Didn't they talk out their issues?
Zac sits on the back left, Jay in the middle, and Kain takes the remaining seat. I'm left there wondering what the hell I'm supposed to do.
"Are you getting in or not?" Kain asks impatiently and I frown.
"Where am I supposed to sit? The car is full."
Everyone laughs when Kain pats his lap.
"Sit here." He says like it's no big deal.
"How now?"
"It's getting late, Belle. Just save time and get in here. If you don't, I'll make you."
Biting my lip in defeat, I climb cautiously onto his lap, aware of everyone's eyes on me.
