I'm standing so still, afraid that he is going to disappear if I blink.
He releases Gianna and I swallow dryly when he turns to look at me. I can't believe how good he looks. He is wearing a tux for once but his hair is somehow messy.
He walks slowly towards me until he is a few feet away then he stops. His eyes never leave mine and as I stare at him, I feel tears burning in my eyes.
I missed him. Terribly. Is he still mad at me?
He opens his arms wide and finally, the tears begin to follow. They make me blind as I take the few steps between us and he pulls me to him as soon as I'm within reach.
He wraps his arms around me and I am inconsolable as I hide my face on his shoulder and let the tears flow in torrents.
"Hush, baby. Please don't cry." He whispers tenderly, his fingers straying into my hair.
He cradles me in his arms, his hold on me tightening and we stand there for God knows how long, none of us saying anything.
The crowd is probably staring but I don't care about that. My Mom already knows how I feel about Kain so she should let me be for once.
He lifts my face from his chest and I notice the wet mess I made on his formal jacket. Mascara is probably running all over my face but he doesn't seem to mind. Or maybe Alicia used waterproof make-up on me? I sure hope so.
"Stop crying." He whispers while gazing into my eyes, his thumb delicately tracing my cheekbone.
How did I live without him that one week?
"You are back." I state the obvious, trying not to hiccup.
"Yes." He whispers."For you."
I swallow and just stare at him. I can't believe he is actually here.
"I'm sorry, Kain." I eventually say in a very small voice. I still feel guilty and the fact that the secret made him leave me makes it worse. I don't want him to run away again.
"Don't be. I overreacted."
"You didn't...."
He places a finger on my lips to silence me.
"This is your mom's wedding and we are stealing the show."
I look around and sure enough, all eyes are on us.
"How angry is your Mom?"
"I'm not sure. Why?"
He shrugs. "She looks like she wants to strangle the hell out of me. Let's get this done with, shall we?"
He takes my hand and I feel nothing but tingles as we head over to where Daniel and Mom are standing, looking at us.
Daniel passes Kain a small grin but Mom glares at him.
"Where have you been?" She asks without mincing words.
He passes me a glance before turning back to her.
"I made a mistake."
"Yes you did. And Bella is just going to forgive you for running away?"
"Mom..."
"I'm not talking to you Bella. Let him fight his battles because the next you cry yourself to sleep or you miss school because he left you; I will hunt him down. I mean it."
"Kain is a decent boy." Daniel comes to his defense .
Mom shakes her head. "He should convince me. He is not doing himself any favours by hurting Bella."
"It won't happen again. That's a promise." Kain confidently and she lifts an eyebrow.
"Are you two dating already?"
"No. Of course not." I say quickly and Kain passes me a very surprised look, all eyebrows lifted.
"So you're not having sex or anything, are you?" She asks Kain while narrowing her eyes at him and he laughs lightly.
"No, we are not."
"Good. You better take care of my baby."
"Of course I will."
As he pulls me away, I sigh in relief. Mom is really changing. Whatever Daniel is doing to her, he better keep it up.
Jade is burning with fury as she hugs Kain. He hugs her awkwardly with one arm still around me. She hits him on the chest, her eyes brimming with tears.
"You idiot. You better not run away again or I will beat you up. I was worried sick about you."
He leans to kiss her cheek.
"Calm down, okay? I'm not going anywhere."
"You better not." She warns him sternly and he grins.
He throws Jay and Zac a glance then walks right past them. Jay shakes his head and Zac just rolls his eyes.
I'm clutching Kain's arm with both of my hands when Dad spots us. He is busy talking to Mom while Daniel chats with a bunch of guests.
He nods at us and I'm pretty sure he is going to harass me as soon as he is done with Mom.
"That's my Dad." I tell Kain, gesturing to dad with my chin.
"Did he come with his family?"
"Just the boy."
I look around before I notice Kane talking animatedly with Cara. His hands are gesturing wildly while he speaks and Cara bursts out laughing. Whatever they are talking about must be very funny.
We walk to them and the cute boy smiles up at us. Kain squats in front of him before lifting his hand for a high five.
"Hey buddy? How are you doing?" Kain asks pleasantly and the boy grins.
"I'm cool." He replies in a high pitched tone. "Is that your girlfriend?" He adds while looking at me.
Kain smiles up at me. "Yes. She is pretty. Isn't she?"
"She's beautiful. What's her name?"
"Why don't you ask her?" Kain suggests while giving me a beseeching look. I think he is doing this for me because the last time we talked, he was suggesting that I should try and bond with Kane.
Right now, I would do anything for Kain so I squat beside him.
"Hi." I greet Kane who reaches to touch my hair.
"Hi. What's your name?"
"Bella."
He gives me a toothy grin. "Nice name. My name is Kane."
"I know." I spare him a tentative smile. He is actually adorable. I don't mind talking to him.
"Our names rhyme." Kain tells him as he offers his fist for a punch.
My heart melts as I watch them engage in a conversation. Kain is so keen, hanging on Kane's every single word. He keeps grinning, acting surprised where necessary and he actually bursts out laughing when Kane tells him that he thinks girls with dimples are cute.
This side of him is too sweet and I simply swoon. I'm still watching them in awe when my Dad walks to us. He has a huge scowl etched on his face.
"Belle." He calls me curtly while pulling me into a hug but not before he gives Kain a not so subtle glare.
