The cabin is a nice spacious room complete with a cooking area. It's still somehow new, located in the sparse woods a few miles from the highway.
It's a nice place, totally calm without the noises from the city and I automatically fall in love with it.
A large four poster bed is positioned on one end of the huge room and a fire place stands proudly directly opposite the bed. A large leather corner seat sits on the extreme corner from the bed. The rest of the room is a vast unoccupied space which is carpeted with a thick Persian rug.
Wait, where are we going to sleep? There are nine of us for crying out loud!
I can't question that right now though because no one else seems to be bothered.
Jay flops on the bed while Zac sits on the couch. He is acting all moody and withdrawn but I'm not punishing myself for that.
Cara and Gianna follow Jay, slumping on the spacious bed and I'm left standing in the middle of the room with Kain, George, Jade and Ethan.
"Who is taking the bed? Should we vote?" Jay asks from his position on the bed.
"Maybe the ladies can share the bed? We will use the sleeping bags." Ethan offers.
"I'm sleeping with my girl. I don't care if it's on a bed or the floor." George says with a note of finality. That bossy non-compromising tone reminds me of Kain.
I fight the surge of guilt that flows through me everytime I remember that George is keeping a mighty secret. It's not my story to tell. It's George's story and he should be the one to say it. After Kain's mom gets better of course.
"You two will share a sleeping bag then. I'm not sleeping with a couple on the same bed. Being the third wheel has never been appealing." Jay tells George who suppresses a chuckle.
"I'm taking a sleeping bag. You kids decide who sleeps on the bed." Kain says and Jay smirks.
"I don't know who Kain is. From today your name is daddy." He says pleasantly.
I bite my lower lip to keep the laughter at bay but Gianna doesn't hold it. She bursts out laughing, holding her hands over her ribs while cackling with laughter.
"I'm taking a sleeping bag." Zac offers quietly.
"Me too." That's Ethan.
"How many bags are left?" Jay asks and Jade checks them before replying.
"Just one."
"Okay, Cara is taking that. I'm sharing the bed with Gianna and my puppy face." Jay decides and I swear Cara rolls her eyes.
Everyone seems to be in agreement with that. I just hope that I will be safe from all the predators in the room once the lights are off.
It's already dark outside and we don't have much to unpack so we all agree on starting our weekend fun right away. Before that, I draft a quick text message to mom and Daniel, letting them know that we arrived safely.
Jade asks me to accompany her to the kitchenette to stuff the foodstuffs on the shelves while Cara and Gianna start the fire.
It's growing cold and it hits me that I didn't pack a single jacket.
Oh hell.
I was too excited about leaving to remember that it would be pretty cold in the woods. I hope against hope that I'm going to survive.
"So" Jade starts while arranging packets of mango juice on the bottom shelf, "How long were you planning on waiting before you told me that something was brewing between you and Kain? "
"Brewing?" I ask sheepishly and she glares at me.
"You were sucking each other's faces moments ago."
I gasp at her bluntness while stealing a glance at Kain. He is busy talking to Zac and he actually laughs at something Zac says. Boys' friendships are so funny.
"Nothing is brewing between us. We just kissed." I quickly defend myself and Jade sneers at me.
"We just kissed." She imitates me then rolls her eyes. "That guy is always looking at you like you are the best thing that ever happened since Starbucks. Which part of 'you just kissed' is that?"
"Just stop it, okay? You're making a mountain out of a molehill. He just kissed me. It was unexpected."
She raises an eyebrow. "Whatever you two do, use a condom."
I groan. "Not that line."
"I mean it Bella. I'm too young to be branded aunty. If you can't do it for yourself, then do it for me."
I roll my eyes and turn away from her. She is just annoying the fuck out of me.
After dinner, we sit on the dusted floor in a circle. I'm sandwiched between Ethan and Cara, and Kain is seated directly opposite me.
All the boys are taking beer and a bottle of whisky is seated in middle of the circle. Cara has taken a double shot and she is already all smiley.
Jade is drinking some shit and I'm comfortably sipping my mango juice.
"This is so boring." Jay says after a moment of silence. "Let's play a game."
"Yes!" Cara jumps excitedly. The whisky in her is already working miracles.
"What game are we playing?" Zac asks. The alcohol is already taking effect. He hasn't been talking much in the last few days.
"Truth or dare." Gianna says eagerly.
"Truth or dare is so cliché. Let's play 'never have I ever'." That's Ethan.
"How does it work?" I ask, since everyone seems to know what exactly it's all about.
"It's easy." Jay explains. "If I am the one starting the game, I'll say something I've never done. For example, 'never have I ever broken into a friend's house and not told them.' If anyone here has ever done that, they take a shot."
George narrows his eyes at him. "Whose house did you break into, Jay?"
"I didn't, okay? It was just an example!"
"Jay?" Jade makes a face, coaxing the words out of him and Jay throws his hands up in resignation.
"It was George's apartment, okay? I was hungry and he lives close to school."
Cara gapes at him. "You could have bought food or asked him for keys."
"It's a bit too late for that now." Jay says smugly before turning to me. "So, what do you think, puppy face?"
I shake my head. "That's too complicated."
He rolls his eyes. "I know your are scared of drinking. It's okay though. Let's play truth or dare."
I can feel Kain's questioning eyes on me so I simply nod at Jay. I wish I could say we've been all cozy and cuddly since our little kissing game but we haven't. He's been talking to the boys the entire time while I was stuck with the girls.
"Gianna, you start. You ask the person seated next to you." Jay explains.
"What happens if I'm dared to do something and I can't?" I ask.
